Internet Services and Provision
Synetrix provide a fully managed suite of best of breed Internet services, already being used by thousands of schools and organisations across the UK. Our managed services provide operational flexibility and peace of mind knowing that your users will be protected from the obscurities that come with working and learning in a world 'connected' through the Internet.
Data Backup and Storage
As the name suggests, Synetrix Securestore™ is a secure managed backup and storage service where data is encrypted on the client before backup commences and de-encrypted on restore. The data remains in its encrypted state whilst stored and cannot be accessed unless by a user with the correct encryption key.
The service is easy-to-use, quick and reliable. The fully automated system can be installed, configured and for peace of mind, email alerts can be generated on successful backup completion.
Once the initial full backup has been taken, only new or amended data is physically backed up, reducing transfer and recording times. Synthetic full backups are automatically created each month, adding daily backups into the last full backup.
Plugins are also available for common applications like MSSQL, Exchange which enables the backups of live data without impact to the live service.
Email Content Control
Email Content Control provides a first line of defence against all email threats including viruses, spam, malware, denial of service attacks and directory harvesting.
The core anti-virus protection utilises a number best of breed identity based engines which together provide 100% detection and removal of known viruses. To combat new virus threats that tend to replicate and distribut at high speeds before updates are available for the anti-virus engines (‘Zero Hour’ syndrome), heuristic filters to seek out new, unknown viruses through additional mail scanning.
A key elemenet of the service is the content filtering where the detection of distasteful images embeded or attached is provided by specific image filters providing image analysis.
With SPAM levels regularly measured at between 65 and 90 percen, Synetrix’ Email Content and Control service is designed to manage the sheer volume of unwanted mail identified through multiple best of breed filters. This also ensures the lowest possible false positives where legitimate email is blocked.
To enhance mail security, a new encryption service now forms part of the ECC package which provides an open standard encryption mechanism without the need to deploy additional hardware of software. Encryption Services are provided using Transport Layer Security (TLS), a transparent mechanism for encrypting data on a peer-to-peer basis, such as between messaging servers.
Web Content Filtering
URL filtering utilises the most advanced content filtering technology, currently providing Internet safety for hundreds of thousands of pupils throughout the UK.
The technology combines a sophisticated automatic intelligence engine augmented with constant human review to ensure that website content is correctly marked (for access and restriction) and categorised, making it one of the most accurate solutions available on the market.
A web based control panel that allows URL filtering policy management provides full-delegated policy administration; once again, flexibility allows a number of user groups to be created under a single policy, which allows different levels of Internet Content Control to be applied to various groups within the same school or organisation.
Website Hosting
Web site hosting is a dependable shared server website hosting platform that provides a secure, cost effective and easy-to-administer website service. Full support for the popular Microsoft FrontPage tool, including Server extensions, for the creation, editing, and testing of your Web pages. Full database functionality and Active Server Pages (ASP.NET) support enables dynamic and interactive websites, and easier content management.
Email Hosting
Email hosting is a scalable, reliable, secure and resilient service providing access to email accounts via POP3 and IMAP4 clients, or via a web interface (WebMail Client).
The Advanced WebMail client provides mail encryption to ensure confidentiality of mail traffic destined to the client. It also provides features over and above the standard email functions such as Group Calendar and scheduling along with the ability to use multiple mailboxes and Email personalities.
Domain Name Services Hosting
Domain name service hosting is a fully managed, geographically resilient, primary and secondary DNS hosting service. The platform will ensure the highest possible service resiliency and availability. Synetrix undertake all administration and apply any required changes to the hosted domain. Access can be provided to allow customers to manage their own domains, which can be further granulised where delegation of management permissions allows sub-domains to be managed by other departments or organisational bodies.
